I am a believer that doing something is better than doing nothing...
It is always amazing to me how people can be so critical of efforts to do good for the millions of people in our world that live in the kind poverty that kills. It is easy to be a critic and offer nothing better. I have experienced this in the working of the Mi Esperanza Ministry but it has become apparent on a very [big scale] with the new "Red" campaign. Lots of talk about how people feel about it....Sorry, but how can you feel bad about millions of people receiving life saving meds they would not get otherwise, how can you feel bad about saving lives?
The big question being asked? Why give through the red campaign? Why give through this marketing blitz...Why not just give? Well, because we DON"T! I long ago came to conclusion through my work in Honduras that the best way to get people to give is to give something in return. People will quickly "buy something" that helps a cause but ask to just write check, it doesn't happen so easily. It is who we are, as the haves. We want something in return for what we give or we just sit back and criticize efforts so we can feel ok about not being part of a solution. If people just gave....We wouldn't have the problems RED and many other organizations are trying to solve..If there was an abundance of money freely flowing in to help the poor then people would be fed and would not be dying.
So what is wrong with companies that offer to give part of [their] profit if you buy their products...Nothing that I can see...All we have to do is buy, which is what we do best.... Better than we give.

So true Lor... our culture hangs on to our money with both fists too often, myself included.
whewwwwww...screaming my heart here sista!!! have to go home next week to do lots of presentations so I'm afraid I'll miss your visit...but this is the very thing I'm praying to communicate. heard someone say the other day what if we as a body of Christ became known for what we do rather than what we don't do? stopped me dead in my tracks and made me take a good look in the mirror. for so long we've been known as being the don'ts, ya know, don't drink, don't smoke, don't dance...blah blah blah BLAH!!!! wonder how Christ's image might change if the ones of us who wore his name started giving til it hurt, started loving til we were weary, and started going to bed tired every night because of the things we did do...changed something in this girl. gonna start trying to be known for the things I do instead of the ones I don't that might seperate me from the world so in some pious way I might feel better about myself, which I'm learning is never what Christ intended in the first place...we did that!! so there's my sermon for this night. guess you can tell this post struck a heart nerve! love you and love your heart! the boys are sooooooooooooooo excited tia lori is coming :):)
