I have been back in Honduras for 3 days and I do believe it only gets harder not easier to be here. I am quickly reminded of the scripture when Jesus states."the poor will always be among you". This could be an excuse for living with no or little regard for the poor but for me it is a reminder of the calling of The Christ and for me that calling has brought me here, to this place where the poor are EVERYWHERE..They are not hidden away so that I cannot see them, no they are right before my eyes so that I cannot ignore the reality of this world and what I have allowed to go on for far to long. It is funny to me that in the states we neatly gather the poor all together put them where we are not faced with seeing them everyday and we go about our business and live as if everyone lives as we do. But the reality is that 80% of the world lives in devastating poverty. Can we as God's disciples go on living as if this is not true? Why do we think we deserve so much and others so little?
You often hear "if there is a loving God why does he allow so much poverty and suffering?" My response to that is WHY DO WE? God has provided more than enough!
I know, I know, if you read this blog regularly you are probably sick of hearing me rant and rave about the poor but I feel [if] God has given me a voice it is for those who are voiceless. For those who cry out and are not heard by those around them. It is to plead their case and call us to more faithful living and to look beyond our small worlds. Jesus said "feed my sheep!" Are we listening?
So with that said...You will hear it again and again and my prayer is that by speaking it I will continue to hear the call and maybe just maybe the voiceless will cry out and be heard, LOUDLY!

Lori,
I loved reading this blog today! I guess if everyone is as selfish as I am nothing will ever get done! Its deff more than a reminder and realization that God has so greatly blessed us so that we in turn will bless others. Now if I could only constantly live those words! Thanks for the reminder!
