The Breakfast Club
It all started at the beginning of the summer when The God of Wonders Team worked in the community of San Miguel. A little boy Melvin and I were just drawn to each other. I know all of you reading know of Melvin and if you don't, visit Mark's Blog (link on this page) and you can read all about him. From that relationship the Mi Esperanza team has developed amazing relationships with a group of boys in that community, Melvin, Yonie, Brian, Jonathon, Jorge, Cesar, Eduardo, Mauricio, Orlin, and Aldo. They have come to trust us and realize that our care and love for them is genuine. Well a couple weeks ago was Melvin's birthday (again you can read all about that day on Mark's blog) while celebrating we brought the boys to the house for cake, since that day we have had daily morning visits with the boys. It has become our Breakfast Club. Pancakes, eggs, donuts always something to eat and a great time of visiting. We really love the time we spend time the the boys. Our breakfast time now has become a time of bathing, washing clothes, I am not sure how this happened...how little boys on a mountian are now daily in my home....I guess we have just become like a little family. I wish all of you could join us for breakfast tommorow!

Breakfast Club
This is Ryan and I am going to finish the rest of today's blog because my mom had to stay back today and take care of Eric. He has been really sick the last 24 hours so he wanted to stay back to recuperate. After the Breakfast Club meeting this morning Jenny, Erin, Malissa, Leo, my dad and myself all headed to San Miguel to build bunk beds for a a family who TORCH had built a house for earlier in the summer. This is a family that Malissa had grown close to. Malissa, my dad and Leo stayed back to take care of that.

Bunkbeds
While Mark, Leo, and Malissa worked on the bunkbeds, Erin, Jenny and I went to deliver some things to different people in the community. Our first stop was Dylcia's house. We showed pictures of her twins in yesterday's blog. Jenny wanted to bring her some diapers for the babies and when we got there we found out that she needed some food for her family. Her husband has had to leave for about 5 months to work for some money but this gap in time has left her with no food. It turns out that she had just run out of food yesterday and we arrived today. Coincidence? Nah! Later in the day we were able to bring her the things she needed. I think that the food we were able to bring will be able to help her for approximately 2 months. Praise God!
The entire day we had about 8 kids following us to "protect" us because that is what Marcos told them to do. Needless to say we couldn't have gotten rid of them if we had tried! It was great because the children there are so caring and they really want to help in any way possible. They helped us communicate with the people in the community when they could see that my little Spanish wasn't working, they helped us climb up and down steep mountainsides and they even built a rock bridge to cross a river. It was truly amazing. We took the kids to the local pulperia (store) and bought them cokes and Ranchitos (Doritos) and let them take a rest and enjoy for a few minutes.

Coke and Ranchitos
Today, the afternoon was dedicated to searching for two house sites that we can build houses on while the family is here. The first one we want to locate is for a site where the house will be built in memory of my grandmother. My mom and dad wanted to let us "kids" pick the site. Jenny, Erin and I walked around with my dad looking at various house sites, there are many many people who want and/or need a new home. I believe that the three of us realized how difficult a job it is to decide who could recieve a new home. We really learned to sympathize with my dad, as this is his job daily. We looked and have already found three possible families to build homes for and we can only choose two. Please pray for our decision as we look at more sites and then decide as a family.
I want to share some pictures from our day today.

Jenny and the most beautiful little girl!
This is a little girl that we searched for all day. When we found her she was in the river bathing/washing her clothes! She is 2 and she was washing her clothes with her siblings. It was precious!

Jonathan's Family
Jonathan is a member of the Breakfast Club and his family has a TORCH house. His little brother is only 7 days old in this picture. The mom was so trusting and she let us pass him around. Aren't they a beautiful family?

Erin and the Breakfast Club
This picture was taken this morning after we bathed and fed the boys. We then left (and of course they rode with us) and headed to the lumber yard. We were just hanging out and the boys wanted a picture.

Elizabeth
The second most beautiful little girl of the day! Erin found her near one of the house sites we looked at for possible building. Her family already had a house the land we were looking at was next door.

The future of the Hernandez family.
We all saw this little boy and decided that when JC and I have children, this is what they are going to look like! WOO HOO! Light hair, light skin, yet still obviously Hispanic!

Giving Dylcia food!
This is the lady I mentioned above. If you look to the right of us you can see it all on the table. God blessed her today through us.

The most beautiful little girl washing her clothes!
Isn't this the most beautiful thing you have ever seen? She is two years old and she was in the river with her brothers and sister helping with the clothes washing!

Ryan and Jonathan's hermanito (little brother)
Jonathan is my little buddy and he asked me all day long to come meet his little brother who is 7 days. When I finally got there, I didn't want to let him go! Isn't he amazing! He isn't named yet so we told the mom that "Marcos" or "Josecarlo" would be great!

Erin passing out candy!
Erin was very excited to buy some candy and pass it out. She had a line going and everything. It was great....the kids love candy!

Jenny and one of the twins!
Jenny was excited to hold the twins again! :)

King Kong Tshirts
We bathed the boys this morning and while their clothes were washing we gave them these t-shirts to wear. Well, Melvin told us that "Esta camiseta es para King Kong" (This t-shirt is for King Kong). It was the cutest ever. He finally put it on! :)
Thank you everyone for reading about our trip! We really enjoy sharing with all of you our days!
There is a section on the blog where you can comment so we would love to hear from all of you who are reading!

Okay,so all of these children are beautiful! These are great pics-they give us a much better idea of what it's like there. I can see why working there is addictive - none of the pressures of our materialistic, activity-loaded days and all the gratification of helping people who are truly in need and so very grateful. However, I don't yet want to fly the big plane over there! Pam
What a wonderful work y'all are able to do with the children:) I know how much that warms your heart,Jenny, and I am delighted for both the children and you! I'm just wondering what happens to all these folks when y'all depart from them? Does anyone else take up the work and continue to supply them with food clothes etc. or is this something they can expect just once a year or maybe they never expect anything at all? It's good that you are able to relieve some of their suffering for a little while even although of course the houses last a l-o-o-g time, hopefully! Keep posting-it's a great way to keep in touch while y'all are out of the country:) LUV U Mema/AJ X
Thanks so much for sharing your days with us. It is such a treat to read of how God is using you there and to see the pictures chronicling your Honduras time.
Yes the work continues after we go. Through Torch/Mi Esperanza continual work and add is available to the communities were we work. Of course life continues to be hard but we do as much as we can and best resource what is given for the work here.
