"Rock the Vote"
"with peoples faith in kings and presidents at an all time low, the greatest challenge may be that folks want to disengage and have nothing to with politics at all~especially folks in a generation that has more faith that Bono can change the world than the next president can. Be we want to offer another option. We want to redefine what it means to vote.
The distinctly kingdom question is not about how we should vote but about how we should live. The decision we make in each future election is no more important how we vote everyday. We vote everyday for companies, for people, and we put money toward "campaigns", we need to think of the faces behind the scenes. Who are the Masters and Caesars that we pledge allegiance to by the way we live and through the things we put our trust in? We vote everyday with our feet, our hands, our lips, and our wallets. We are to vote for the poor, we are to vote for the peacemakers, we are to vote for the marginalized, the oppressed, the most vulnerable of our society. These are the ones Jesus voted for those whom every empire had left behind those whom no millionaire politician will represent." [a reading from Jesus for President]
I think I want it to be easy. Elect someone who will fix the world, that will legislate "others" into moral behavior. But it is not that easy and it is not what Jesus did. I need to live in this world and live the politics of The Christ. I have to look at the "issues" and live out a better way, live real solutions to make a change. I can not look to a president.. because even the best will disappoint me in some way.
I have to own a theology that follows through and that is hard and really makes me think about what I believe. "Love your enemies" If killing is wrong, then all killing is wrong. "Feed my sheep" If poverty is wrong then excess if wrong.
to name a couple of things..
What am i doing to to make change (the buzz word of the campaign) Change will take all of me..not a president.
Just so there is no confusion...YES VOTE! i will be.. just trying to think beyond the election. AND I happen to love Bono!
